Tianmen Mountain, the highest mountain in Zhanjiajie area with an elevation 1518 meters. It’s well known by a cave called Heave’s Gate Hole.
To go there, you have to take cable car from the car cable station where located in the downtown. Tianmen Mountain cable way is 7500 meters long, the world’s longest high mountain cable way. on the top side, you can see huge limestone formation, and the temperature here is much lower than downtown, probably 6-7 degrees difference. Walking on the top side is nice, especially when fog covered, you can enjoy the clouds of sea, just like walking on the sky. Indeed the walking road is built on cliff side of Tianmen Mountain, called Guigu plank, according to local legends there was a Guigu master lived here ever before. Also there is a ancient temple located in the back side of the mountain, It’s quiet and mysterious place, if you know Chinese traditional culture, it’s worthy to explore.
After finished walking on the Tianmen mountain top, you can take a trans mountain escalator going down to the Tianmen Cave, It’s huge hole, measures 130 meters high, and 60 meters wide. in 1999, local government launched an activity that airplane flying through this hole. So many media around the world reported this wonderful event. In front of the Tianmen mountain hole, there is a heaven’s road with 999 steps. It’s a good chance for self-challenge.
